How is the GCC market faring this year? What are the current market trends in the region?
The situation varies from region to region. For example, Bahrain, traditionally the smallest market in the GCC, has seen tremendous growth. Reports show that in the last seven months, the value of investment in construction projects were estimated at $2.3bn. Kuwait on the other hand, has seen an all-time high of $12.2bn last year owing to the expansion of the international airport.
Similarly, I feel for UAE it will be the Expo 2020 Dubai effect as the country according to reports backed contracts worth $35.4bn in construction & transport during 2016. Implementation of VAT will also further boost the construction sector. The citizens would be able to enjoy better services in terms of housing, health and education. Overall, it does look positive for the construction market.
