Saudi to tender three desalination projects

undefinedThe Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) will tender Jeddah RO 3 in the third quarter of 2015, SWCC Governor Abdul Rahman Al-Ibrahim told the Saudi Arabic language daily Al-Eqtisadiah. The project will cost around $266 million (SR1bn) and will produce 450,000 cubic metres of water.

He said SWCC also intends to tender Phase 2 of Rabigh desalination project on the Western Red Sea coast in the second quarter of 2016, but did not provide further details.

The $4 billion (SR15bn) Phase 3 of Jubail project in the Eastern province, which will produce 1.5 million cubic metres of water and 3,000 megawatts of electricity, will be tendered in the third quarter of 2016, he added.

The projects are part of a plan by SWCC to pump nearly $21.3 billion (SR80bn) riyals into the power and water sector in the kingdom over five years.
