His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited the site where a fire broke out in The Address Downtown hotel, Dubai on December 31.
Sheikh Mohammed, who was accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, praised emergency services for their efficient work in putting out the fire - which did not claim any lives - thanking firefighters, rescue and ambulance teams for their speedy response and for handling the incident professionally.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed his confidence in UAE citizens and their ability to handle emergencies and crises.
Sheikh Mohammed met members of Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Police and Dubai Ambulance that participated in managing the crisis and thanked them for their dedication and professionalism.
The Dubai Civil Defence team has started an investigation into the cause of the fire at The Address Downtown Dubai hotel.
The General Directorate of Civil Defence in Dubai said investigations to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire have started. The results about the causes of the incident will be published when the preliminary investigation is complete. (story continues below)

Assistant Director-General for Rescue and Fire at the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Dubai, Brigadier Ahmed Al Sayegh, said that the smoke rising from The Address Downtown Dubai hotel is due to cooling process.
The Address hotel in a statement said: "The fire in the hotel has been contained. We would like to express our gratitude to the authorities for their immediate and professional support. An investigation is ongoing and details will be provided once they are ascertained.
“All our guests and employees were safely evacuated. Guests have been provided with alternate accommodation in various hotels in Dubai. We are sincerely thankful to these hotels for their support and cooperation.”
Dubai authorities have set up a special hotline number for those who were evacuated from the hotel.
The Dubai Government Media Office announced its Twitter account, using #dubai_guests, that evacuees from the Address Downtown Hotel should contact 0097156 683 5129 for assistance.
