The plant is being planned for Dumat Al Jandal, located in the northwestern Al Jouf region, Bloomberg has reported according to an emailed statement from the Energy Ministry.
Companies are being invited to present their qualifications by 10th August and will have through January to submit work proposals, the report informed.
The new announcement falls in line with the country’s plans to develop 30 solar and wind projects over the next 10 years as part of a $50 billion programme to boost power generation and cut its oil consumption.
The country aims to produce 10% of its power from renewable energy by 2023, according to data provided by the news report. As part of this programme the government is already reviewing 51 companies as potential bidders.
This year, the government plans to offer tenders for renewable energy projects to generate 700 megawatts this year. In April, bids were invited for a 300-megawatt solar project, whose winner will be announced this November, the article states.
