Union Properties (UP) has begun construction of a new residential project in Dubai Motor City, marking the start of work on a $2.2bn masterplanned development first announced in September.
Spanning 148,000 square feet, Zawaya will feature more than 400 residential units, the developer said in a stock exchange filing.
The project will also include retail stores, sports and entertainment facilities, a number of food and beverege options and open and green spaces.
Zawaya is part of a AED 8bn ($2.18bn) Motor City masterplan unveiled in September to build 44 high and low rise buildings comprising around 18,000 units and a number of villas.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) was selected in September as the main contractor for the mega project.
Ahmed Yousef Khoury, Group CEO of Union Properties, said: "We are proud to officially announce the launch of ‘Zawaya’ that will redefine the concept of modern and integrated residential community with its iconic design. Residents will be able to enjoy a close-knit community experience, as we provide them with a suitable and harmonious space for communication and co-existence.
“We are looking forward to launching more residential, commercial, hotel and leisure projects within the new masterplan for Motor City, which will redefine many concepts and mark a major milestone in Dubai’s real estate market.”
Other key projects by Union Properties include Green Community, Uptown Mirdiff, and Limestone House and Index Tower in the DIFC area.
