Some of the UAE’s leading contractors have submitted bids to construct DEWA’s sustainable headquarters building, Al-Sheraa (Arabic for sail).
Strabag Dubai, ASGC, Airolink Building Contracting, Nurol, United Engineering Construction Co, Shapoorji Pallonji Middle East, Ghantoot Gulf Contracting, have all thrown their hats into the ring for the main contract for the building which will be B+G+4P+15F+SERVICE).
A year ago Dutco Balfour Beatty was awarded a AED 46mn contract for early works including shoring, dewatering, excavation, piling, fencing and associated works.
The net zero energy building will cover 200,000 sq ft of the total area of the 2 million sq ft Cultural Village in Al Jadaf.
Plans call for 16,500 sqm of photovoltaic solar panels to be installed on the roof to produce over 3,500 kilowatts (kW) and an additional 2,000 sqm of building-integrated photovoltaic panels.
The total renewable energy generated from the building is expected to be more than 5,800 megawatt hours (MWh) per year. The project had been due to be completed and inaugurated in Q4 2019.
